Illuminate® ActKnowledge™
Close the communication loop on critical, urgent and incidental findings
But your practice can close the communication loop — and help ensure physicians have the results their patients need to hear.
Introducing Illuminate ActKnowledge™
Illuminate ActKnowledge makes it easy to track the reporting status of exams containing critical, urgent or incidental findings. Built on the intuitive search and notification foundation of Illuminate InSight™, ActKnowledge is integrated into the radiologist’s workflow and is easily customized to fit with any reporting procedures already in place. Our straightforward implementation empowers your team to begin tracking important communication without the delays caused by complex integrations with your telephone or fax systems.
By streamlining the reporting process, ActKnowledge reinforces Illuminate’s reputation for understanding a radiologist’s workflow, work demands and need for efficiencies. Radiologists can indicate when they make their own phone calls on critical findings or can request another staff person to handle the communication when incidental findings are less urgent.
In a healthcare environment marked by little direct communication between radiologists and referring physicians, this single, manageable communication workflow is essential. It can especially avoid communication breakdowns that occur with incidental findings that don’t require

an immediate phone call from the radiologist and might not involve the specialty area of the referring physician — the patient who comes to the ED with severe abdominal pain and has a suspicious lung density, the patient with a herniated disk whose MRI shows a kidney lesion, a patient whose report is amended from “essentially normal chest CT” to note a small mass that should be scanned again in six months.
Here’s how ActKnowledge works
Once radiologists identify an exam that needs non-routine communication, they click to open the ActKnowledge application and indicate if they called the physician or want someone else to contact them. Options for contact can be customized by the hospital. Exams are sent to the ActKnowledge work queue and accessed by the practice’s communication coordinator. From one easy-to-read screen, the coordinator can see all the exams as well as the notifications that have been or need to be taken. They can view cases by their severity levels, see how and how soon they need to make contact, and then make notes to document all the communications. Radiologists can see every case and its documentation in one place — and never have to wonder whether a physician was informed of an unexpected finding.
Whether a call needs to be made within 30 minutes, 3 hours or 3 days, ActKnowledge provides the structured reporting mechanism to document your communication, improve patient safety and minimize your liability.
